COURSE: GMPROG1
TYPE: Midterm Project
TERM: Third Term, AY. 2014-2015
GENRE: Action Game (Arcade Game)
SOFTWARES:
     - Unity3D
TEAM:
     - John Alson Entuna: Programmer
     - Paul Anton Rae Aguilar: Designer/Programmer

Actual Contribution:

     • Game Design
     • Implementation of Power-Ups

In this project, we were tasked to apply our knowledge in Unity3D so far to create a space shooter/ asteroid game. We were all given the permission to be creative about the game. Additionally, we were also able to successfully port this to a mobile device.

Game Design

For our approach, we wanted it to be really different from the normal space shooter. Why not give the player unlimited life, right? That way, rampaging in the is possible. However, we need an end game. I then proposed an idea where the player must defend a "Mothership" across several asteroids. Getting it destroyed will result into a game over. As we thought, this was a new approach for space shooter, and thus- Space Traverse was formed.

Power-Ups

As for the implementation of the game, my partner was the one who implemented most of the game's mechanics. However, since this is a programming course, I need to be able to implement a feature too. So, he gave me a task on implementing the power-up feature of the game.

Two power-ups were implemented. The first one is the cone shot power-up where the player is able to shoot 3 bullets in a cone formation. The second one is the rapid shot power-up where we allow the player to continuously shoot bullets while holding the shoot button. We also decided to allow the player to combine the two power-ups by acquiring both. This results in a rapid shooting of cone shots!
